Adequate Housing

The long-term living conditions in SRO’s will be significantly improved by the building’s retrofit. The primary goal of this project is to meticulously transform the hotel into a residence that meets all legal standards for “adequate housing”, especially as articulated by the UN Office of the High Commissioner.
“Adequate Housing” is now more than four walls and a roof. For housing to be adequate, it must meet the following criteria relative to:

• Security of tenure
• Availability of services (materials, facilities and infrastructure)
• Affordability
• Habitability
• Accessibility
• Location
• Cultural adequacy
