The St Charles House

RecoverBridge on Notre Dame: The St Charles House

The initiative at hand involves the transformation of the St. Charles hotel, a structure with a rich history of over 101 years and originally designed as a 60-room single room occupancy (SRO) building. Situated in Winnipeg, Canada, this SRO building currently stands vacant, its interior having been completely gutted.

The primary aim of this project is to convert this building into housing that is not only affordable and supportive but also adequate for its residents. This transformation is expected to breathe new life into the building, turning it into a vibrant living space.

A key objective of this project is to make significant strides in environmental sustainability. The goal is to have a net-zero energy ready (NZER) building.

Moreover, a minimum of 30% of the units in the project will be designated as affordable housing. This is in line with our commitment to provide housing solutions that are financially accessible to a wider segment of the population.

In addition to the renovation of the St. Charles Hotel, there is potential for expansion. The adjacent lot, located at 237 Notre Dame Avenue, presents an opportunity for the construction of additional units. This would allow us to increase the capacity of the project and extend our reach in providing affordable, supportive, and adequate housing.
